As with all the uniquely designed room in your home, you will want to have a focal point for your living space. This focal point is where your eyes are instantly haggard when you enter the room. Without a focal point, your room can sense like an overwhelming mix of decorating themes, each competing with the next for attention.

The right placement of the area's furniture goes a long way toward making the area feel welcoming. Nothing is worse than a living space-- no matter how attractive -- where people have to perch against the walls, as if stuck there by magnetic force. Rather, push seating jointly so everyone can sit close and converse comfortably.

In our yard, we directed my “big dreams” by focusing on one “zone” at a time (see my post on how to design a backyard). See the backyard transformation here. Zeroing in on designing one unusual area can be a way to stretch the budget and resources as well as a way to help focus notice on one project at a time.

I have more than a week since I have an Iphone 3GS and I have to say that I love this phone. Now since I have bought this phone I’m more aware of all the things that are related to iphones. One of those things that got my attention is Finite Elemente’s new 1 is what you could call a sound board, and is basically a good-looking iPod and iPhone dock in the shape of a shelf. That’s not all. It comes with all of the necessary ports to connect it to your home theater system and a remote control. The load capacity of the ledge is around 55 pounds, but that actually depends on the wall that it’s fixed onto, since this is a floating shelf. The Horizontal 51 should be obtainable soon, although the $660 asking price is pretty cold.

The living room is the most popular place in a house to entertain guests, and where families come together to end their day, relax after a long workweek or enjoy a TV show together. In most cases, this room is on the main level of a home and sees a lot of activity.

Viewing height: Depending on the height you choose to contemplate your television will dictate how to add artwork or decorative items around it. For those that want it set mounted on a low console, you will be able to optimize more of the wall beyond it for artwork. While if you resolve to ascend it on the wall, the television can compete with artwork – which can be distracting. For larger rooms that have a long viewing range, a wall application will work better. While smaller, narrower rooms will benefit from the lower console.

For me, the living room is more than just a comfy and relaxing space – it also needs to be a multifunctional space where a home-owner can really express their style. I think the most important detail is a comfy sofa and extra seats for guests but a large rug, accent cushions and lighting can rapidly lighten up the dullest of rooms. I love the clean white setting and mix of textures with a yellow highlight colour in this Scandinavian living room arrangement. The extra fireplace or wall art is the cherry on top!

Get creative: For some residence the reality of having standing furniture on hand for large party entertaining isn’t feasible. Whether it is because of limited space to house more furniture, or the finances to afford it. Get creative and pull chairs from desks in other rooms, and use small mobile ottomans for kids. Somedays the art of entertaining is being able to make do with what you have. After all your visitor just want a seat, it doesn’t have to always have to be a five star dinner! Make the most of what you have and enjoy having your large party of guests.
